Duncan attacks Englewood H.S., inner city schools PDF Print E-mail

By George N. Schmidt

As Substance was going to press, the Chicago Board of Education announced that it was going to close Englewood High School and Bunche, Grant, and Howland elementary schools.

Hearings on the closings, which must be approved by the Chicago Board of Education at its February 23 meeting, will be held on February 8, 9, and 10 at 4:30 p.m. at Board headquarters (for the three elementary schools) and at 7:00 p.m. on February 10 (for Englewood High School).  The closings, which are based on the Duncan’s unethical use of standardized test  scores, has been denounced by the Chicago Teachers Union and community leaders. Full coverage in the next Substance.
